Bottlenose dolphins are
abundant and widespread on the west coast of Ireland which contains three
discrete populations; a population in the Shannon Estuary, an Inshore
population, which occurs all around the Irish coast, and an Offshore
population. There have been a number of bottlenose dolphins that have
interacted with humans including Fungi, Dony, Sandyand Duggieand
of course, Dusty. Although these are treated as ‘friendly’ dolphins,
they are wild and very powerful animals. We do not understand why Dusty is
here and we cannot predict her behaviour. Please remember she is wild and not a
trained animal and you are in her environment.
